D-Day Beaches Private Tour
About this tour
Leave Paris at 7:00 in a premium air-conditioned vehicle for an exceptional day in Normandy. Relax and enjoy the beautiful French countryside before reaching the Caen Memorial Museum around 10:15. Also known as the Museum for Peace, the memorial was created to explain the different phases of the Second World War, in particular the Battle of Normandy and the Allied advance across French territory. During your visit, you will discover many everyday objects from the occupation, maps, miniature military vehicles and film screenings that recreate the atmosphere of the Landings and the Battle of Normandy. Lunch (not included) can be enjoyed at the Caen Memorial restaurant.
In the afternoon, continue to the emblematic sites that played a key role during the Landings. The first stop is Pointe du Hoc, overlooking a cliff several dozen metres high between Utah Beach and Omaha Beach. Stormed by the American Rangers on 6 June, it was a strategic fortified position for the Germans along the Norman coast, equipped at the time with heavy artillery.
Visit the famous American cemetery at Saint-Laurent, just above Omaha Beach and very close to Colleville-sur-Mer. Take in the 70 hectares where 9,387 white headstones stand perfectly aligned on the grass, along with a memorial, a chapel and the Garden of the Missing. The site honours the American soldiers who died during the Battle of Normandy. Walk down to Omaha Beach on a small path and take the time to walk on the sand: around one hour to explore the site.
Then stop at Arromanches, a historic town known for the artificial harbour built to support the Landings. Nearly 10,000 tonnes of equipment arrived here on D-Day, and the reinforced-concrete floating caissons known as Phoenix can still be seen on the water today.
Before returning to Paris, make a short stop near Juno Beach and its cemetery, one of the beaches where the Canadian troops landed on 6 June 1944. You will be back in Paris around 21:00.
